Pillar Four

Prevention is the Protection

The days and weeks after surgery decide how a technically successful transplant actually looks. It is the stage most clinics skip, and the one we treat as core.

Why it matters

A sound surgery can still be let down afterwards

Most disappointing outcomes from a technically sound transplant do not come from the surgery itself. They come from preventable complications during early healing, when the work is most vulnerable and the patient is often already on a flight home.
Dr. Top treats the recovery period as a core stage of the Protocol, not an afterthought handled with a leaflet and a bag of medication.
The five risks

What we prevent, and how

donor area infection

Donor-area infection

Prevented with daily professional cleanses of the donor and recipient areas in the days after surgery, sterile technique throughout, and close monitoring so anything unusual is caught early rather than at home.
excess swelling

Excess swelling

Managed with a structured plan of positioning, cold therapy, and medication where appropriate, reviewed daily by your surgeon so swelling is controlled before it affects the result.
excess bleeding

Excess bleeding

Reduced through pre-surgical screening of your history and medications, careful technique, and daily checks during the recovery days so any issue is addressed promptly.
antibiotic and medication

Antibiotic and medication reactions

Prevented by reviewing your allergies and medical history in advance and individualising what you are given, rather than handing every patient the same standard pack.
pain management

Pain management

Handled with an individualised plan adjusted to how you are actually recovering, reviewed in person during the daily visits rather than left to guesswork once you are home.
The recovery timeline

A plan that does not end at the airport

Day 1

Two post-op reviews

You are seen twice on the first day so the earliest stage of healing is checked closely.
Day 2

ALMI Nanofat

The 48-hour feeding step, with a recovery review on the same visit.
Days 3 to 4

Daily surgeon-led care

Daily cleanses and reviews with the surgical team before you travel home.
From home

Structured follow-ups

Surgeon-led reviews at 2 weeks, then 1, 3, 6, and 12 months, so progress is tracked all the way to the final result.
After you fly home

Care that follows you home

Your follow-ups are surgeon-led video reviews at set milestones, not a generic email asking how you are getting on. The same team that performed your surgery checks your progress and adjusts your plan if needed.

Common questions

Recovery, answered

ALMI Nanofat is given at the 48-hour mark, which places its anti-inflammatory and healing properties right at the heart of the critical recovery window. The enriched fat layer helps suppress swelling, reduce shock loss, and accelerate wound closure – giving every other part of our prevention program a stronger foundation to work with.

We recommend three to four days after surgery. This covers your day-one assessment, ALMI Nanofat on day two, and daily clinic visits on days three and four for scalp cleansing, wound monitoring, and medication reviews. It is more hands-on recovery than a 48-hour package, and it makes a real difference to your result.

On the first day after surgery we ask you to come in twice, morning and night. Each following day you visit for a 30 to 60 minute session: a medical-grade scalp cleanse, wound check under magnification, swelling review, medication review, and a direct consultation with Dr. Top. Adjustments are made in real time. Between visits you are free to rest or explore Bangkok.

That’s exactly why we do thorough pre-operative screening – covering allergies to antibiotics, anesthetics, and NSAIDs – and arrange alternatives in advance. If anything unexpected comes up during your stay, Dr. Top is right there for daily consultations and can adjust your protocol on the spot.

It comes down to how everything works together. Our aftercare isn’t a standalone service – it’s the fourth pillar of a protocol where every component reinforces the others. ALMI Nanofat provides biological support from Day 2, daily surgeon-led consultations keep clinical oversight tight, and the whole system has been refined across 22 years and more than 10,000 procedures.

Most patients fly home three to four days after surgery, following a final in-clinic assessment. Dr. Top confirms your scalp is healing well and that you are confident in your home aftercare before clearing you to travel. The flight from Bangkok to Australia is typically seven to nine hours.

Many of our patients do just that! Once your 3 – 4 day recovery program wraps up, you’re free to explore Thailand. Beach destinations like Phuket and Koh Samui are just a short flight away – just keep in mind the sun exposure guidelines for your treated area.

Dr. Top’s team stays with you long after you leave Bangkok, with virtual follow-ups at four weeks, three months, six months, and twelve months. At each check-in, he reviews your progress, assesses how your grafts are growing, and addresses any questions or concerns.

Your medication plan is personalized based on your medical history and allergy screening. It typically includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain management – all tailored to you. Every prescription is reviewed and adjusted daily during your Bangkok recovery stay, and we provide full documentation for your doctor back home.

We proactively manage five primary risks: donor area infection, excess swelling, excess bleeding, antibiotic reactions, and inadequate pain management. The great news is that the vast majority of these are entirely preventable with proper monitoring and early intervention – which is exactly what our daily consultations provide.
